in the end, this does really matter: Mike Shinoda remixes Foxing's "Grand Paradise"

November 22, 2019

Foxing’s groundbreaking third album Nearer My God completely reinvented the future for the St. Louis band, and its impact can still be felt now, over a year since its initial release. Today Foxing shares the first in a series of Nearer My God remixes, featuring Mike Shinoda’s (Linkin Park) take on album opener “Grand Paradise.”

The remainder of the remix collection features work from The Chain Gang of 1974, Bas Relief, Psychic Babble and more, and will be released throughout the rest of the year.

It was certainly a surprise to the band when they first discovered that Mike was a fan. As guitarist Eric Hudson tells it, “we had heard that Mike liked our record from an interview he did, so one night on tour, I said ‘fuck it’ and dm-ed him on Instagram asking if he’d be interesting in remixing. Somehow he saw it and said he would.”

“Grand Paradise is my favorite track off of Nearer My God, and I’m grateful the band let me remix it,” Shinoda explains. “The original has so many spectacular tracks and melodies, and I loved reinterpreting them.”

Eric continues. “We all grew up as massive fans of Linkin Park and Mike’s solo work, so it’s truly a surreal honor to have someone of his talent and stature give a nod to a band like ours.”

Produced by Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie) and expertly-executed by vocalist Conor Murphy, guitarists Eric Hudson, Ricky Sampson, and Jonathan Hellwig on drums, Nearer My God is an apocalyptic melodrama about control in a world that really, really feels like it’s falling apart. Foxing shines their collective brightest on this record, combining elements of anthemic indie rock, avant-garde R&B, classical and more to create their most original and strongest material yet.
